Upper Goulburn Intrepid Landcare: Empowering Communities for Environmental Action

Post Date: June 24, 2023

Upper Goulburn Intrepid Landcare (UGIL) is a vibrant community organisation dedicated to fostering environmental awareness and empowering young adult individuals to take action in the Upper Goulburn region. With a recent successful tree planting event and an upcoming Community Weekend, UGIL is actively engaging the community in meaningful environmental initiatives and encourages young people, (as well as those young at heart) to join their efforts. By empowering the community and raising awareness about environmental issues, UGIL is playing a vital role in building a sustainable future for Murrindindi.

Planting Seeds of Change:

In a wonderful display of community collaboration, UGIL recently organised a tree planting event in Limestone. With the participation of eight passionate volunteers, a total of 176 trees were lovingly planted on a local property. This endeavour aimed to restore native vegetation and stabilise the site from erosion while ensuring a sustainable future for the region. The event not only helped to strengthen the local ecosystem but also created a sense of camaraderie among participants.

Upcoming Community Weekend:

UGIL is excited to announce its upcoming Upper Goulburn Intrepid Landcare Community Weekend, set to take place on the 15th and 16th of July. This event promises to be a weekend filled with engaging activities that will inspire and educate participants about environmental stewardship. Everyone is welcome.

Yea River Walk and Clean-Up with Precious Plastic Murrindindi:

As part of the Community Weekend, the Yea River Walk and Clean-Up in collaboration with Precious Plastic Murrindindi will be held 1-5 pm Saturday 15th at The Yea Wetlands Discovery Centre. Participants will have the opportunity to explore the picturesque Yea River while actively contributing to its preservation. The clean-up efforts will ensure that the river remains pristine, protecting the local wildlife and maintaining the natural beauty of the area. Additionally, in partnership with Precious Plastic Murrindindi, this event emphasizes the importance of responsible waste management and gives participants a chance to use locally made machines to recycle the plastic we collect.

The Giants Movie Screening:

One of the highlights of the Community Weekend, UGIL will host a captivating movie screening of “The Giants” at the Yea Community House at 7 pm Saturday 15th. This thought-provoking film highlights environmental issues and inspires viewers to become agents of positive change. The screening will serve as a platform for all community members to come together, fostering meaningful discussions and encouraging a shared commitment to environmental conservation.

Tree Planting on the Rail Trail:

Continuing its dedication to reforestation efforts, on Sunday 9.30 am-12.30 pm UGIL has organised a tree planting event on the Rail Trail in Homewood. Participants will join forces to plant trees along this important pathway, enhancing biodiversity and contributing to the overall well-being of the region. By engaging in hands-on conservation work, attendees will experience the gratification of directly impacting their local environment.
