The Yea and St Pat’s Race Club committee have decided not to allow the general public into their Dec 19 race meeting, industry people only. This is despite the government lifting restrictions and recent race meetings being allowed 500 patrons.

The reason given is a racegoer might be found to be a positive Covid case which would impact committee members who would have to isolate. When the “curtain”, preventing metropolitan residents from travelling to country Victoria, was recently lifted there was talk that some people were concerned that the influx of visitors could compromise their Covid free environment. The last place I thought would have this attitude was Yea.

Race days bring good revenue into town and Dec 19 would have been good to help with recovery. The Race club should be showing the way not taking a backward step. There is still time to change to change this decision.
