The National Landcare Network and the Victorian Landcare Council are seeking support for the current Landcare funding through the National Landcare Programme which expires in June 2018.

The NLN has been working with NRMAs Aust. to put the case for continued support but a letter writing campaign from our landcare community to their local Federal members is considered necessary as our future funding will effectively be decided in the lead up to this budget ie, within the next fortnight.

Please support your landcare community by sending a letter to your federal MP.

The National Landcare Programme is a key part of the Australian Government’s commitment to natural resource management and it is scheduled to conclude at the end of the 2017/18 financial year.

In the next federal government budget, we will find out whether the Australian Government is going to continue or not with an equivalent programme

This is an urgent “call to arms” to our landcare community to remind our federal government of what has been achieved over the last 5 years of the programme, in such a cost effective way.

There are nearly 50,000 members of landcare in Victoria, and every dollar invested in natural resource management through landcare is multiplied many times over. A significant win for the public purse.

Many of you will have contributed to the online review of the programme late last year. It is even more important to urgently now follow up with your local federal parliamentarians and reinforce the need to continue to invest in the environment, in the land, water and soil and in the communities that commit through their landcare efforts to making this a better place.

To put the case for:

 A minimum 5 year programme

 A minimum of the same investment ( $1billion over 5 years)

 A focus once again on providing funding for local programs that are developed in consultation with local communities.

I have taken the liberty of including the contact details of the federal members and senators… just to help!
