MURRINDINDI FILM SOCIETY AT YEA BUTTER FACTORY – 11th April 2025

Post Date: April 1, 2025
Murrindindi Film Society will be screening at the Yea Butter Factory this season, which will be a new and somewhat different experience for members. The first presentation will be on 11th April, with future screenings to take place on the 3rd Friday of the month, May to September inclusive. Doors will open at 6.45 p.m. with the film to commence at 7.00 p.m.

Our first film will be Fred Schepisi’s 2011 adaptation of Patrick White’s novel “The Eye of the Storm”, starring Charlotte Rampling, Geoffrey Rush and Judy Davis. It follows the story of two siblings, both expatriates, who return to Australia with a view to sharing a large inheritance from their dying mother. However In dying, as in living, she remains a formidable force on those around her.

This is a sometimes savage exploration of family relationships, and has sharp undercurrents of love and hate, comedy and tragedy. But eventually, for the first time in their lives, the meaning of compassion takes the siblings by surprise.

Others in the cast include Robyn Nevin, Helen Morse and Colin Friels. The screenplay is by Judy Morris and the music by Paul Grabowsky. The film won the critics award for best Australian feature at the 2011 Melbourne International Film Festival.

We hope as many members as possible can attend to see this well regarded Australian film and to experience for themselves the atmosphere of our new venue. Prospective members and first time guests will be made welcome free of charge.
