The MAD Billy Kart Derby has developed a strong local following over the years and with the broad range of entry categories, people can compete in it whether they’re racing as school competitors, individuals, or simply competing for the design and creativity awards.

The track is 260 metres long and the race is run downhill along Lyons Street, Yea. Racing will run from 10am until 5.30pm.

“Whether we enter for our artistic skills, or whether we’re aiming to create a new land speed record, I’m throwing out the challenge to my fellow Councillors to pin a number on and get involved!” Cr Bowles said.

“This is not only a fabulous day out but it’s also for a great cause – to raise awareness of the value of local youth groups and clubs. It is also about raising vital funds to support these organisations, as well as helping new groups get started.”

Cr Bowles said the Derby organiser, the MAD Billy group, is passionate about fostering youth clubs and groups to provide safe, positive environments for our Shire’s youth and is aiming to raise $10,000 to advance that goal.

“For our young people to be happy, healthy and engaged, they need opportunities to develop solid relationships with other young people and to work together with positive and encouraging adults,” she said.

“It’s great the MAD Billy Group is working hard to develop these relationships between our local schools and these groups to engage our young people outside school. I encourage everyone to get involved and come along on the day.”
